Watching a program called This World: The Mormon Candidate. First problem here is that John Sweeney has his facts wrong. Joseph Smith never was a polygamist that was the realm of Brigham Young. It’s also a program about the LDS Church and they do not represent all Mormons. Don’t be fooled in to thinking that other Mormon faiths that are not part of the LDS church are break away faiths, they are ...not! There is no official Mormon Church, one does not designate official by the size of a faith or church ever. Don’t believe everything you hear about Mormons. ...Joseph Smith was definitely a polygamist. The idea that he wasn't is only later RLDS historians trying to whitewash Mormonism's founder.
ReplyDeleteJoseph's wife Emma maintained that he did not practice polygamy, and his son Joseph Smith III, stated that his father may have been guilty after talking to women who supposedly married him. Thats not whitewashing. Thats being an honorable man and accepting testimony evidence, because why would those women lie? Unfortunately he did not reckon the deceit of Brigham Young and his followers. Brigham needed to justify his polygamy by linking it to Joseph Smith, and he had women sealed to Joseph after his death and his influence over them cannot be underestimated.
